Setting Goals

This week, we starting collecting information in our Data Folders.  Each student colored and graphed how many feathers they had earned in September.  Then we also graphed how many new sight words each person knows now since first grade.

Each person wrote a goal for themselves for the month of October.  We will get these Folders out again in a month to collect more data and reflect on our goals we had set.

From the P.T.O.:

Thank you to all who have purchased or returned their Bucky Books.  As of Sept. 18th, we have earned $855 from the program for Eagle Point School!  Reminder, that this Friday, Sept. 28th is the absolute last day for sales and returns.  It's imperative that we get back books that haven't been sold to avoid reducing those funds earned.  Please check your homes this week and return unsold books and sales slips to your homeroom teachers as soon as possible.  Thanks again for everyone's efforts in making the sale a success for our school.

Our First Fuzzy Friday

Yesterday, we emptied out our fuzzy jars to count up our totals.  Each day, the students have opportunities to earn fuzzies for being safe, responsible, and respectful (or just making good choices with their behavior overall).  They had been excited to finally see how many fuzzies they had collected!

After they know their total number, they can choose to either keep saving or to use them in exchange for a reward ticket.  Here's a few examples of 10 and 25 tickets of wearing no shoes in the classroom, wearing a hat, or bringing in a stuffed animal for the day.  Students are excited to use their tickets in the next week to celebrate their good choices!

Chromebooks

Today, Ms. Tia came into the classroom to teach us a little about finding things on the Chromebook keyboards.  We used the Chromebooks to practice logging in and out.  We had to use the 'shift' key to make capital letters.  We'll log into these when we take the iReady Assessments, and also to practice our Ready Math lessons this year.  They did great on figuring it all out!  👏

Reader's Workshop

We've been working hard on the Reader's Workshop routines to practice our independent reading.  Each day we find our reading spots, choose a book, and get started on our reading in order to increase our stamina.

Reading Calendars

This is coming home today in your child's Take Home Folder.  The letter gives more information about an activity second graders can do to help promote their reading progress.  It's completely voluntary (not homework), but I told the students that those who participate can get some extra fuzzies in our classroom.  Please let me know if you have any questions about reading calendars.

We Are Superheroes!

Yesterday, we finished our superheroes.  We each shared something we like doing.  We have been learning a lot about each other from our Me-Bags, the superheroes, and the find-a-friend activity we did earlier this week! ☺

We're Finally Here

Today, after hearing the book read aloud, You're Finally Here, we all enjoyed coming up with our own reasons of what took us so long to get to second grade.  😉  We also had fun today hearing about some Me-Bags and can't wait to share more of them tomorrow!
